LEARN TO QUILT!

We designed this class to give you a thorough introduction to quilt making from beginning to end.  You'll learn how to construct those traditional quilt blocks that are the foundation of most quilts, while having the freedom and flexibility to create a quilt top that is as modern as you are.

Once your quilt top is complete, you'll learn how to baste, quilt, and bind your quilt as well.  In six weeks, you'll go through the whole process of making a small quilt.  This sample is ~20"x20" but yours doesn't have to be the same--that's the beauty of this class!

You'll learn how to construct basic blocks (4 Patch, 9 Patch, Fence Rail, & Log Cabin) as well as slightly more complicated blocks (Flying Geese, Hourglass, Pinwheel).  You'll also improve your rotary cutting skills, practice using a 1/4" foot & a walking foot, learn how to add sashing, and make & attach your binding.  If you plan on making this quilt a wall hanging, we'll teach you different ways of making that possible, too!

Materials List:

  • (12) Quilting Cotton Fat Quarters* (*FQs are ~18"x21")
    All Konas / Bundles
  • (1) Spool of All-Purpose Thread
  • Batting (we will supply unless you'd like to bring your own)
  • 3/4 yard Quilting Cotton for Backing

If you'd like us to put together a fabric bundle for you, please check out: Class Kit for Beginning Quilting.

Our FQ bundles would be perfect for this class!  We also have a large assortment of Kona Cotton solids (FQs are $2/ea) and Previously Loved FQs (available in store only, $1/ea) if you'd like to curate your own color palette.  We offer a 10% discount on class supplies purchased at Cut & Sew PHL.  Use code CLASSMATS if you're shopping online, and we'll have your fabric ready for you on the first day!

Skill Level: Beginner
Students must be able to independently thread the machine, load a bobbin, & sew a straight line.  If you need to start there, please check out our Introduction to the Sewing Machine Class.
