In this beginner-friendly garment making workshop, we'll be making a beginner knit pattern by Patterns for Pirates called the Relaxed Raglan (or Jolly Roger Raglan if you choose to make a child size)!  It has "all the style you need in a soft comfortable shirt!".  The pattern comes with multiple options for sleeve length, hem lines, and even elbow patches.  "The loose fit allows for almost every knit from cotton lycras to sweatshirt!  It's a relaxed, slouchy sweater/sweatshirt feel with ease throughout the body and arms."

To prepare for the workshop, you'll purchase the pattern directly from Patterns for Pirates, print it and cut out the pattern paper in your chosen size.  You'll consult the pattern to determine how much fabric to buy for your selected size.  This is a great opportunity to do contrasting fabric for the sleeves, collar, and/or cuffs! Fabric should be pre-washed to avoid shrinkage.

Pattern, fabric, & thread are not included in the cost of this workshop.

Skill Level: This workshop is designed for adult students who want to sew garments but already have a good foundation of basic sewing skills (threading the machine, loading a bobbin, etc.).  If that's not you (yet) check out our Intro. to the Sewing Machine class and our Beginning Sewing class.  Older teens who are experienced sewists may join this class!

Pattern:
Adult: Relaxed Raglan - Patterns for Pirates
Child: Jolly Roger Raglan - Patterns for Pirates

Fabric:
For main body- knit with at least 10% stretch. More stable knits are recommended.
For neckbands and cuffs- knit fabric with at least 75% stretch horizontally and
good recovery. Look for spandex or lycra in the content.
Fabrics may be able to be purchased locally at Gaffney Fabrics or Needles & Bolts (both located in Mt Airy), or online at JOANN, Boho Fabrics, Mily Mae Fabrics, Sincerely Rylee or others.

For help understanding knits and stretch percentages, check out this P4P blog post & the included cheat sheet: Knit Types - Patterns for Pirates

Questions regarding the pattern, fabric, sizing, etc. can be directed to your instructor, Stacy Kraus McDonald, (skraus75@gmail.com).

This workshop requires at least two students to run--bring a friend!
