The Traverse Bag by Noodlehead Patterns is an advanced beginner to intermediate project. This bag has a zipper top closure for the main compartment, a zipper pocket on the back and two hidden slip pockets under the flap.  In this class you will learn two
different approaches to installing zippers, how to make your own piping, and how to add hardware and snaps.

Please Note: In Amanda's sample (main image), she has utilized pieced panels that will not be part of this workshop's instruction.  If you'd like to include a pieced panel like hers, please come with it already pieced and ready to be constructed into your bag.  If you'd like to learn how to create a pieced panel like Amanda's, please check out Beginning FPP: Mini Flying Geese.

Skill Level: Intermediate Sewist

Instructor: Amanda Kosobud of Glue & Stitch

Traverse Bag Supply List:

  • Traverse Bag Pattern by Noodlehead
  • Fabric and Interfacing (as listed on back of pattern)
    - We recommend quilting cotton, linen, or canvas
    - Recommended interfacing: Pellon SF101
  • Coordinating Polyester Thread (there is some topstitching in this pattern on the exterior pieces and lining so think about what colors you would like to coordinate)
  • Bag Hardware (as listed on back of pattern)
    - We recommend hardware from Sallie Tomato
  • Zippers (as listed on back of pattern)
    - For those new to zippers, we recommend buying the exact size(s) listed on the pattern.  For those familiar with zippers by the yard, we recommend Zippers from Sallie Tomato or Zipper Valley (they can be trickier to use if you have not used zippers by the yard before).
    - If using metal zippers, you'll need the exact length of zipper on pattern
  • Optional: A #24 snap and snap setting tool (if you choose to do a snap closure on your flap)
    - Noodlehead offers a beginner kit for this: Metal Spring Snap Starter Kit
  • Other options for closure: A turnlock or magnetic snap with prongs
  • Optional: 1 yard of 1/8” cording to make your own the piping around the flap

Pre-Work Before Class:

o Please purchase the pattern and determine which size of the Traverse Bag you will be making with us
o Please purchase all materials and supplies for the bag depending upon the size of the bag you wish to make
o Please have all of the fabric precut before class and interfacing adhered to the appropriate pieces
