About Macramé by Monday
Philadelphia-based artist Sam Tower (she/her) splits her time between a career in theatre and her fiber art practice. Sam uses macramé knotting to create sculptural fiber art inspired by nature, along with functional macramé home goods and accessories as the owner of Macramé by Monday. Sam's small batch and custom-created pieces are knotted by hand in her home studio using consciously-sourced materials that have been recycled or purchased from other small businesses. Sam takes a low-waste approach to making by using repurposed materials, incorporating scraps, and eliminating single-use plastics as much as possible. Working with her hands brings balance and focus to her life, and she enjoys sharing the practice of macramé with creative communities. Her work often includes vintage and organic materials such as reclaimed wood, ceramic beads, foraged driftwood, and other fibers like recycled silk, velvet, jute, and yarn. When creating macramé art, Sam is inspired by the natural world, her cultural heritage, and the treasures she finds while antiquing.
