The Zippy Bag is the perfect beginner-friendly pattern to get into bagmaking! It's a great little travel bag or for those days when you only need to carry the essentials. It has lots of pockets for organizing the important things.
The pattern offers two sizes to choose from and might just become your new favorite thing to make for gifts! In this class you will learn basic bag making skills, how to use zippers by the yard, and how to install zippers two different ways. By the end of this class, our goal is that you will feel confident installing zippers and come away with a perfect little bag for your summer adventures!
Level: Confident Beginner (Adults)
You can use the sewing machine independently (thread the machine, load the bobbin, etc.) and you have a basic understanding of sewing tools (rotary cutter, scissors, pins, etc.) and how to use them. This bag works well with quilting cotton, linen, canvas. If you choose to use cork on the exterior, you will not need interfacing for those pieces. - Bag Hardware and Zippers listed on the back of the pattern
For zippers, we recommend Sallie Tomato #5 nylon teeth zippers by the yard.
You can also source #5 zippers by the yard from Amazon. However, they can be trickier to use if you have not used zippers by the yard before.
For hardware, we recommend hardware from Sallie Tomato in the recommended sizes listed on the back of the pattern. Sallie Tomato sells a hardware kit that specifically works for that bag if you do not feel like sourcing all of the individual pieces. - Coordinating Polyester Thread (there is some topstitching in this pattern on the exterior pieces and lining so think about what colors you would like to coordinate)
