Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much fabric will I need to provide for my featured fabric?
A: You will provide 1.5 yards of your featured fabric.  You'll cut up your featured fabric into 12 fat eighths (9" x 21") to distribute to the other 11 participants (you'll keep one).

Q: What fabric will I use to complete each month's block?
A: You'll use the fat eighth featured fabric and pair it with fabric you choose.  You can purchase fabric if you’d like or just use what you have in your stash already! At our monthly sew-ins you’ll also be able to use fabric from our scrap bins for free!

Q: How much guidance will we have each month?
A: It depends!  Each participant will choose how much (or little) guidance to provide for the other block-makers.  When providing guidance for others, you may request that others stick to a certain color family, color palette, or certain type of fabric when making blocks for you (i.e. "jewel tones", "an earthy palette", or "solids only").
For quilt block designs, as part of your registration, you'll receive a quilt block card deck that has LOTS of different blocks to choose from.  You can choose to follow the instructions of one of these cards or you can find some other resource to use instead--totally up to you as long as it ends up a solidly constructed 12.5" (unfinished) block.

Q: Will the fabrics be Kona cotton from the shop? Or preloved fabric? Or our own?
A: You are responsible for providing all the fabric used in all the blocks you make, except for each month's featured fabric.  For the blocks you are making each month, you will get to choose everything about the blocks including design and fabric you pair with the featured fabric.  Your featured fabric and the fabric you use in each month's block can either be purchased or come from your existing stash.  When working in the studio, you'll also have access to our scraps (free)!
