Cut & Sew is seeking enthusiastic and encouraging Sewing & Fiber Arts Instructors with advanced sewing skills to teach camps, classes, and workshops for children, tweens, teens and/or adults. You do not have to teach all age levels.  Possible topics include Quilting, Embroidery, Mending, Machine Sewing, Hand Sewing, Garment Sewing, Sustainable Sewing, etc. 

Pay: $20/hr

Applicant Must

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be an experienced sewist with excellent teaching skills
  • Be able to plan age-appropriate sewing projects
  • Be able to teach sewing techniques using sewing machines and by hand
  • Be able to provide a detailed list of supplies needed to teach each camp or class within a budget and in a timely manner
  • Have strong communication skills
  • Have teaching experience (required)

Days, times and teaching hours of the week and weekend will vary (but will be scheduled well in advance)

Job Summary

You'll propose classes/workshops/camps based on your expertise and interests.  Written proposals (an email is fine) will include class topic, age level, skill level, basic lesson plans, materials list, etc. and will be approved and scheduled as the studio calendar permits.  Most times you'll be expected to prepare a class sample of the proposed project.  This is a great opportunity for local fiber artists and makers to share their passions with our creative community!

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
One of more years of post educational experience working with sewing and/or fabric art is preferred but not required.  A degree is preferred but also not required.  Teaching experience is required (not limited to traditional classroom teaching).

Conditions of Employment

  • Three PA background checks required for teaching children's classes/workshops (Cost of background checks can be reimbursed upon hiring if they are a financial burden)
  • Satisfactory reference checks (3) required prior to employment
  • Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination required for all instructors
