Curious about English Paper Piecing (EPP)? Whether you’re looking to learn the basics or expand your repertoire, this series has something for you. Attend all three sessions or choose the one or two that best match your experience and expertise.

  1. Basics of English Paper Piecing (EPP): In this first session of the series, participants will learn EPP basics, including basting options, fabric preparation, and hand stitch methods. At the end of this first hour, participants will leave with a completed “hexie flower” or seven completed hexagons sewn into a single shape. Provided supplies: Intro to EPP Kit (zipper pouch containing three hand sewing needles in felt needle book, a PL thread, 20 1-inch hexie papers, snips, Sewline glue pen and refill).
  2. Beyond Hexagons: In the middle session, participants who are already familiar with the basics of EPP will move beyond the most common introductory shape to explore additional shapes and layouts, including curves and more complicated EPP blocks. Participants will also learn how to create or shop for additional shapes to expand their EPP hexagon collection. Participants in session two MUST have prior experience with EPP or have attended session one in order to participate.
  3. Complex Patterns and Designing It Yourself: In the final session, participants with EPP experience will explore the possibilities of creating their own patterns or blocks and working with complex shapes beyond the basic geography of EPP. Topics will include sourcing patterns and papers, translating FPP to EPP, and hand- and computer-drawn patterns.

Required Supplies for all sessions: fabric of choice (studio scraps may be used if preferred!)

Provided Supplies: for session one, participants will get an Intro to EPP Kit; for all other sessions, please bring your preferred needles, basting methods, and fabric
