Quilt As You Go is a fast way to make a quilt. Join instructor De'O Brien and learn this home-machine-friendly quilting method!
This is a fun technique that allows you to combine the steps of quilt making--the piecing and quilting are done together so that when you've completed the top, all you have left to do is bind the project. The back can be as interesting as the front, creating a reversible project! This method also works well if you want to machine quilt and the throat of your machine is not large enough for the size quilt you are making. Get started on the quilt and solidify your skills on this technique - you will be well on your way to finishing your quilt on your own!
We will be using same sized-pre-made blocks, batting and backing fabric to create our quilts. If you don't have pre-made blocks, you can join us for Into to Free Motion Quilting before class and make some! We recommend contrasting fabric strips for the “as you go” joining of blocks to create an interesting design.
You will finish the quilt on your own so plan to do so at home or you can rent the studio and have access to all the tools and equipment you will be using in class!
Please bring the following with you on the first day of class:
- 6-9 10x10" Premade Blocks (Join us in the studio before this class to make some blocks and learn a new skill in our Into to Free Motion Quilting Class!)
- 6-9 10x10" Batting
- 6-9 10x10" pieces of quilting cotton for the backing
- 2-3 WOF 2 ½ in strips of cotton Fabric
- 2-3 WOF 1 ½ in strips of cotton Fabric
- A spool of coordinating, All purpose Thread.
Level: Confident Beginner
Must be able to independently thread machine and load a bobbin. Knowledge of Free Motion Quilting is very helpful but not required.
