In collaboration with Storyteller Thembi Palmer, we're bringing you a brand new workshop experience!  Thembi is a professional storyteller and creative facilitator who specializes in joyful, community-based programming. Thembi's recent workshop series blends sewing with guided storytelling to explore themes like identity, belonging, and social justice.  You can also check out our family class, Our Family Fabric, if you have K-5th graders who would like to be involved!

Hand Sewing Project: Participants will create a personalized, hand-embroidered name piece on fabric. Using an embroidery hoop, attendees will learn and apply basic stitches to carefully stitch their chosen name – whether it's their given name, a cherished nickname, or a word that truly defines them. The focus is on the meditative process and personal expression rather than intricate perfection, allowing for a unique, heartfelt creation.

Guided Storytelling & Journaling: The workshop begins with guided journaling prompts designed to unearth the rich stories, memories, and aspirations connected to one's name. As participants stitch, they'll continue this introspection, translating their personal narratives into tangible stitches. The session culminates in a supportive story exchange, where individuals are invited to share their embroidered name piece and the unique tales it holds, fostering connection and mutual understanding within the group.
